Priti Patel: Why UK Home Minister is in controversy

British Home Minister Preity Patel has been supported by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on allegations of mistreatment of staff.

Sir Philip Ratnam, the senior-most official of the Home Ministry, resigned on Saturday. He said that a 'malicious and planned' campaign was being carried out against him.

Allegations of misbehavior with the staff appearing on top of it have been denied by Home Minister Preeti Patel. At the same time, during an event in North London, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that he had 'complete confidence' in Patel.

He said, "I think he is a great home minister. Anyone who has been a home minister can tell that this is one of the most difficult positions in the government."

The Prime Minister also said that he 'fully respects the civil service people and their work'.

What is the charge

In a statement released on Saturday, Sir Philip had said that he had come to know about allegations of Patel 'disrespecting, degrading them and making unreasonable demands' from the employees.

He says that he intends to take legal steps against the Home Ministry for being forced to resign.

It is believed that this complaint was made by a member of his private office. The private office consists of six to eight bureaucrats who work with the minister.

Patel's spokesperson said that he did not know about any such complaint. She did not reject any claims but said that she would not talk on personal matters.

Sources in the Home Ministry say that Patel had created an 'unfavorable and unhappy' environment for the bureaucrats by questioning their ability and calling their performance bad.

He said, "It was bad to see the people of his private office. He felt that he was being persecuted."

David Penman, head of the organization of senior bureaucrats, said, "Since Preity is in the Ministry of Home Affairs, no formal complaint has been made against her but it is to be noted that there is no formal policy to complain against the ministers. No code There is neither process nor transparency. "

'May have to resign'

Lord Curslake, former head of the civil service, said that the Home Minister may have to resign if Sir Philip wins the legal process.

Lord Curslake, who was an advisor to the Labor Party, says that Sir Philip's departure in this way is extraordinary and it will shock the people associated with the civil service.

The Home Ministry has to fulfill two main promises made during the elections - recruit more police officers and immediately create a new system for the migrants after Brexit.

Along with this, the Ministry of Home Affairs will also have to react to the independent report that is going to be made public on the Windrush case soon. In this case, people from Caribbean countries were arrested or repatriated from 1958 to 1971 who had the right to remain in Britain.

A source in the Prime Minister's Office said on a question about Patel that Johnson had full confidence in his cabinet.
